# AJ Tamayo's Manager Readme

**Software Engineering Manager at Thinking Machines**

# Hey!

I created this document to hopefully **empower you** when you work with me. I want to ensure transparency in how I operate, and how we can best collaborate for mutual success.

# Ownership

**You don’t need to ask for permission** before taking action on something you believe is important for the team. Decide, act, and then inform. If it contributes to our goals, go for it!

# Communication

Be proactive in communicating your challenges, ideas, and goals. **Address small issues early before they become larger problems.** This helps us tackle potential roadblocks together and ensures we're aligned

# Feedback

If something doesn’t align with your expectations or you see room for improvement, **please provide immediate, specific, and actionable feedback**. Explain what happened, how it impacted you, and suggest a way forward.

# Iteration

Feel empowered to share your drafts and work-in-progress. **Feedback during the process is essential for refining ideas and improving outcomes.** We don’t expect perfection at every stage; the goal is collaboration and continuous improvement.

# Goals

**Be explicit with your goals and how they align with our team’s priorities.** Your work should reflect not just what needs to be done today, but also what helps us move forward strategically.

# Decisions

Please involve me immediately in decisions that impact **scope, client expectations, the agile process, project timelines, or any potential delays.** Quick alignment here helps prevent misunderstandings and keeps projects on track.

# Growth

Handle conflicts or disagreements constructively. **Feedback should be seen as a growth tool—given promptly, specifically, and with actionable suggestions.** Let’s address issues as they arise to maintain a positive and productive environment.

# Focus

**Focus on anything that reduces the time it takes for an idea from the customer to come to fruition.** Efficiency in delivering value to our clients is a top priority.

# 1on1s

**Direct messages are preferred for quick updates.** Having 1-on-1 meetings in the morning is best to discuss progress, challenges, and any support you need.

# Future

Always think ahead. It’s not just about what works now but **what will keep us moving forward.** Change and improvement may feel uncomfortable, but they are necessary for growth.
