# Intro

Hello, I am Guy, i just wanted to give you a quick introduction to my core values, thought processes, and overall insight into my mind. If something is worth saying, it's probably worth writing down. Besides that, I want you to hold me accountable to everything I've written here; I think transparency and honesty are the keys to effective leadership, build trust, and create a safe place to make awesome things.

# Motivation for this document

If you are reading this document I want you to know that although it might be scary sometimes to speak to your manager. I want to make this process a bit easier by being transparent and exposed, so you will find a way to feel comfortable approaching me. yes, I am a straight shooter, I will say exactly what I think, and I also shield you and using this to your advantage.

# My role

my role is to make you be the best version of yourself, i will mentor, guide and suggest how you can improve, i am also here for you as someone you can rant free to, a buddy you can speak to about everything, and if i won't be able to help i will find the way. i know it sounds like i promise a lot, and sometimes there are constraints but people and culture are before technology and software.

i am here for your well-being and to help stir your future career.

to sum it up in points:

- **Inclusion**** : **your voice and opinions are important. You are a valuable member of the team and I want to ensure you can express yourself, provide feedback, and contribute unencumbered to the work we do. My ultimate goal is to listen and understand.
- **Let me deal with red tape** : you are too smart and your time is too valuable to spend it dealing with corporate red tape and political arguments.
- **Get you what do you need: ** what do you need to make your job better, more efficient, or easier? Too much on your plate? Hate this project? Tell me so I can work on fixing these!
- **Find opportunities:** once I know your personal goals, I want to figure out how we can achieve them. Are you working in IT but your goal is Data Science? There's a path there, and I want to find the projects and people to help you find those stepping stones.
- **Provide context**** :** it's easy to lose motivation and focus when we don't understand why something is being asked of our team. I want to make sure you understand how your contributions affect our product and the world we live in.

# What do I value most?

I value honesty and Genuine answers, coming forward, telling me when there are issues. being passionate and love what you do is equally important to your wellbeing

# My Expectations

my expectations from you are, to be honest, don't sugarcoat and don't fluff things, if you hate something I did tell me it straight away. i will never judge you for being brutely honest with me.

# 1:1s

1:1s are your meeting. This shouldn't be about status updates; we can discuss that in standups or a quick Slack message. What do you want to do with your career? How is your work/life balance? How is your home life? I believe part of a managers job is helping clear the path for your own personal growth and helping you achieve your goals; this meeting is to align you and I on what those are.

Please come prepared with questions, thoughts, or some other agenda. If you don't have anything, I'll try to keep the conversation flowing as we navigate your career path.

# Personality quirks

- i have brilliant memory and attention to details, problem is I cant listen to you and take notes, so if you think I am not taking you seriously because I am not writing anything it is not the case, I am just capturing everything in my mind.
- I hate wasting peoples time, so I always want to start my meetings on time. I get life happens and things can push you late; no problem. Just know that the agenda will kick off as scheduled; but that agenda will likely include a couple minutes to catch up since we're all hybrid. If I'm late for a meeting, feel free to ridicule me relentlessly.
- I work from home. My wife works from home. Sometimes my son is home too. You'll probably see/hear them in the background at some point. If my mute button looks like it's throwing a rave, I'm probably just trying to save your ears.
- I check e-mails & Slack between 7am and 4pm. If you need me outside of those hours, just send me a text or call. If I send you a work message outside of those hours, I'm not expecting a reply until you're back into work mode.
