# Motivation for this document

Humans are a complex species. Hence, working with them is a complex task.  
The manager-employee relationship is crucial for success, both for the employee and the manager, but mostly for the team.&nbsp;

Putting in words who I am, what do I value, how do I perceive my role and what are my expectations, will most certainly help us build our working relations quicker.&nbsp;

If I had this document for every manager I had, I’m sure my life were much easier.&nbsp;&nbsp;

# My role

I’m here to build an environment that allow my team to produce value to our users in the most optimal way.  
I’m doing that by making sure the team has:

- A direction/vision
- Context
- Trust
- Outstanding cooperation
- Mutual work
- Clarity&nbsp;
- Transparency

As a manager, I see my team as a producing machine.&nbsp;This machine has many moving parts, which all needs to be monitored and enhanced/improved.&nbsp;

I believe that if you’re happy, motivated and come eager to build, we can accomplish anything.&nbsp;

Therefore, talk to me! Always!  
Tell me what you think.   
About us, about the team, about the product, about anything that might improve our mutual work and the team cooperation.&nbsp;

If you’ll come eager to do work, I will not be the one preventing you from doing.&nbsp;  
If you want to do something, or have an idea, I will let you fly. Not before challenging you and making sure we are going to the right direction, but in most cases I will let you fly, even if you fail eventually.&nbsp;  
  
I will not be mad if you fail. I will be mad if you won’t learn from it. So show me how you are going to avoid the next fail.&nbsp;

# What do I value most?

**Trust**

This is basic. No trust, no game!  
 It won’t come for free, but we **must** build it for us to work together.&nbsp;  
  
**Ownership + Accountability**

If you say “I’m on it”, than you’re on it and own it. All the way.&nbsp;  
From defining the task, breaking it, planning it, designing, building, testing, measuring, monitoring and everything related to this task until it’s working perfectly in production.&nbsp;  
If it’s not working, I expect you to come forward&nbsp;and fix it. &nbsp;

**Focus**

I&nbsp;appreciate people who are target-oriented and stay focus until they reach their goal.&nbsp;  
I need you to never lose sight on target and push-back on everything that might take your focus off of it.&nbsp;

**Collaboration & Team work** &nbsp;

We work together!   
Leave your ego at home and come to work ready to work together.&nbsp;Within the team and with every interface we have.&nbsp;

**Professionalism**

Some say that perfect is&nbsp;the enemy of good.&nbsp;I say BS! Perfect is what our customers expect from us hence this is what I expect from you.&nbsp;  
Be professional in every aspect. In how you behave, in how you plan, in how you design and how you execute.&nbsp;  
If you’re not proud of something that has your name on, something needs to change!&nbsp;&nbsp;

Plan your stuff.  
Document your stuff  
Communicate your stuff  
Make sure you know what’s coming up and that I know as well.

# My Expectations

Be positive and eager to learn and create great things.&nbsp;  
Be a doer.&nbsp;  
Challenges? Bring them on…&nbsp; &nbsp;

**Say**

If you have something to say, say it!

I expect everyone to say what they think, even and mainly if they disagree on something we are doing.&nbsp;  
Your voice is important to me, and I promise to hear you out.&nbsp;Now, I might hear you out and decide differently, and in that case, I expect you to disagree & commit, but I want everyone’s voice to be heard.&nbsp;

**Share**

We’re a team. A team needs to work together. If you won’t tell the other members what going on with your tasks, we will not know and won’t be able to assist.&nbsp;  
Share with us what you are doing, whether you’re stuck, how can we help and if things are not going as planned. &nbsp;&nbsp;

**Feedback**

Feedback is crucial for us to get better.&nbsp;If you wanna get better, ask for feedback.&nbsp;  
I know I want to get better, so hereby I ask -&nbsp;feedback me.

**Grow**

I’m here to help you out with wherever you wanna take your career.   
But… eventually, it’s&nbsp; **your&nbsp;** career.&nbsp;  
You need to come up with where you are aiming at, with a plan and steps towards that aim and with requests that will help you get there. &nbsp;&nbsp;

# 1:1s

Throughout our work together, you’ll see that I’m always available - through WhatsApp, Slack, mail and if not you can call me at any time.&nbsp;

However, the only time that I can guarantee to be 100% yours, is our weekly 1:1.&nbsp;

This is the time to share, consult, express, discuss new ideas, consider challenges and risks, and talk about whatever is on your mind.&nbsp; **It’s your time!** So plan it ahead and come prepared with the topics you want to discuss. &nbsp;

# Personality quirks

- I like meetings to start on time, end on time and have a predefined agenda and result with a meeting summary.&nbsp;

- Action items requires action! do it!

- If you're in a meeting, you should be **in the meeting** , not in your laptop or cell phone. Everyone will talk in our meetings. **&nbsp;**

- I&nbsp;don't value "hope"&nbsp;as a good plan. It can only be on top of a good plan.

- I&nbsp;don't value "I don't know" as a good answer. It's our job to know.

- I&nbsp;sometimes work at strange hours, I&nbsp; **don't** expect you to answer at those hours.&nbsp;

- Family comes first! Always!
