# Craig Capodilupo's Manager Readme

**Engineer at Wayfair**

# Motivation for this document

I am hoping this document helps new people on the team understand what is important to me and how the team operates.

# My role

My most important duty is to make sure that the people on my team are happy. My next most important responsibility is to insure that the team is producing quality work at a fast pace. If our employees and customers are happy with the work we are doing then we are successful. We are also measured across groups so one of my jobs is to communicate our performance up to leadership.

I will help you improve your skills and reach your goals.

# What do I value most?

Honesty. Everything is easier if we are transparent with one another.

Simplicity. Reduce complexity whenever we can. Break things up as small as possible. Remove unnecessary layers. Show me how adding a new layer will make us more efficient. Even in jest, the saying "This is job security" its a huge red flag to me.

Efficiency. I'm always tweaking things to make us better, faster.

Hard work. Sometimes we need to work later, longer to get things done.

**You can help me by being honest and telling me how I can improve and/or how the team/processes can improve.**

# My Expectations

I expect people to work at least 40 hours a week. Flexible on times: Come in early, leave early; Come in late, leave late. Try to be here during the core hours: 10 AM-4 PM. You will see in Jonathan's README about how working more can get you ahead faster. This is especially true when going for a promotion- for example having to do both L2 and L3 things at once- watch out for burnout!@ - [https://managerreadme.com/read...](https://managerreadme.com/readme/jonathanklein/hw86hw)

Take your vacation!. You will come back with renewed energy and perspective and be more efficient.

# 1:1s

We should meet weekly until that frequency no longer makes sense. Please come with an agenda and let me know ahead of time if I'll need to prepare. This is your time. If I were you I would use the time to talk about your career.

# Where to focus on your first 90 days?

Spend the extra time you'll have at the beginning to learn the systems, the people, etc. It will pay off in the long run. I typically expect 5-10% gains per week so that after ~2 months you'll be operating at full capacity.
