# Douglas's Manager Readme

**Engineering Manager at M&S**

I wrote this "Manager README" to share who I am, how I think, and what I value most. I hope that this will help us build a healthy, rewarding, and impactful team!

Feedback is a gift! Please let me know what you think.

# What do I value most?

I am very driven by project deliveries: I like the feeling of "getting things done", which often guides my actions. That doesn't mean that I don't value quality, but I will always "keep my eyes on the prize". So, when challenged by blocking situations, you can count on me to engage and try to find a well-balanced solution aimed at the company's best interest.

As a manager, my primary role is to help our team deliver meaningful value for our company and each other, so I want to be there for you and help you grow in your career, develop your craft, and have a great experience at work.

# What is an ideal collaboration in my mind?

**_(“Ideal” is a constant work in progress)_**

- You feel energized and motivated to do your best; aiming to achieve our team goals and your own. You feel trusted to share when you're not there, and why. That way, we can work on a solution together. I recognize not all problems will have straightforward answers, and that's also part of our collaboration to identify these situations and talk.
- You feel that you can raise any concern, challenge decisions, and contribute with your feedback at any point in time.
- You trust your teammates; you feel safe expressing yourself.
- You feel empowered to make decisions.

# 1:1s

I like having weekly 1:1s, but I'm open to reviewing the pace to make sure that our 1:1s are working for you.

Please be on time and come prepared, because this time is mainly for you. Our main goal will be to talk about your contributions, daily challenges, and career growth.

Feel free to set the tone for how much you want to share about your physical and mental health, and trust that I will keep what you tell me privately. I want us to have a safe space where we can openly share our thoughts and build strong rapport. We can keep some things "off of the record".
