# Harpriya Buttar's Manager Readme

**Engineering Manager at Thinkific Labs, Inc**

# (Work in progress, just like me)

I came back from Maternity just 6 months ago, still at times juggling between work and life balance, but mostly Mom Brain! I wrote this document to share my expectations on what would make it most effective to work together, and so that you can hold me accountable for it. Use this document as an intro into my mind and how I like to operate: my mental and operational frameworks.

# Motivation for this document

I wrote this document to share my expectations on what would make it most effective to work together, and so that you can hold me accountable for it. Use this document as an intro into my mind and how I like to operate: my mental and operational frameworks.

**My Role**

I believe managers work for their direct reports. I’ll work for you by:

- Holding 1:1s with team members and coach team members.(Eventually)
- Prepare notes for team members for annual/quarterly reviews and Provide feedback to team members.
- Help SDETs get their work done and support the team with blockers.
- Continually looking for ways to improve team efficiency.
- Review implementation plan with the team.
- Represent the team in GATE Planning meetings and All Hands and be available to support them.
- Work with a team to establish timelines for the completion of projects.
- Help the team doing technical estimation and supporting their efforts.
- Work with a team to review the backlog and add items to sprint.
- Work on your growth plan, keeping you motivated and accountable.
- and many many more!!

# Feedback

I love feedback❤️!

Feedback is critical to your success here, and mine

Three dimensions are required for people to continue to give you feedback:

- Safety (unlikelihood of being punished for giving feedback; should be high)
- Effort (The amount of work in order to give feedback, also known as "how much do you argue when people give you feedback?"; should be low)
- Benefit(how likely is it that giving you feedback will materially impact your behavior? should be high)

👍 Let me know if I don't do well on any of these three dimensions

👍 I'll let you know if you don't do well on any of these three dimensions

# Want to talk? - Forget my Calendar

- You may not find a slot on my calendar in any given day
- If you need to talk, let's talk. Send me a google meet link.
- Let me know via Slack or call me and I'll evict something
- Basically, If you need me - simply ask me anywhere/anytime. I’m pretty good with a lot of context switches. This is my job. Please don’t assume I’m too busy.

# 1:1s

Remember, you are the main focus during that time, it is all about you, if you found me talking a lot please stop me :D

This is a dedicated time for you to ask about anything, complaint, appreciate, even curse, be happy, be angry. A time for you to vent, to talk about new ideas, career goals, achievements (personal wise or career-wise) this is a good time for me to guide you and coach you if needed, I might not have all the answers but I promise I will help you find them.

Lattice: I find lattice very useful in my 1:1s I like filling it so I am sure that I don't miss anything that I want to talk about, however, I won't hold you accountable of doing that, find the best way that makes you comfortable during our 1:1s as long as you come with the things you want to talk about :)

Location: For now all remote, but we can do sometime in office as well!

Frequency: We can do weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, whatever you feel you need, I am on board.

# Personal quirks

- I sometimes get over excited or panic out, I may get a bit red. I don’t like it about myself, and I try to improve. I tell myself that “I’m all-in, all the time” but it’s just me losing my temperament. When you feel I crossed the line, tell me. It’s not my intent.
- I am working from home with a toddler(13 months) who is currently handled by Nanny n Gramps but I tend to make my schedule so that I get some dose of her while I work and then goes not-so little trouble maker, my Son for whom I am away for school pickups and when he's home he sometimes does anything to call for attention, if you see my son trying to talk to me during meetings, please give me a minute or 2 (and sometimes 5) to settle him.
- I usually work from 9:00 am - 6:00ish pm but if you need me early or later than my schedule - just let me know.
