# My role

My role as your manager is to support you and your team to grow and shine, as well as to guide you and your team to achieve excellence.

“When you want something, the whole universe conspires in order for you to achieve it” — The Alchemist.

Everyone is capable of reaching their goals with the right attitude, passion, and discipline. I want to provide you and your team with the tools and resources, in order to support you to be successful with the right attitude, passion, and discipline.

# What to Expect from Jenny

- **Honesty and open communication**. I will do my best to be transparent and honest with you, whenever I can. For example, when there are things happening that relate to you or the team, I will communicate to the team directly, unless there’s a specific reason that I have to withhold information.

- **Constructive feedback and criticism.** When needed, constructive criticism is given in private. I will ensure the criticism is fair, actionable, and constructive.

- **Weekly or Bi-weekly meetings:** We will have 30 mins 1:1s weekly or bi-weekly. This is a great opportunity for me to make sure you are given the support you need to succeed in both your job and your professional development goals. This is a place I can provide constructive feedback as well as receive constructive feedback from you.
  - This is a dedicated time to talk about everything you want to. Both myself and you will contribute to the agenda. I may start with more structure at the beginning, then keep it loose later. It may have the following format:
    - 1: This is the most important part. you will speak what’s on your mind, ask questions, and bring up roadblocks.
      - You will be responsible to add items to the agenda.

    - 2: jenny’s items - PDP, work progress, feedback…etc.
    - 3: future items, action items, things to follow up on…etc.

  - We will also have Quarterly meetings.

- **Think Day + PD Day** Every Month, I will be taking One Think Day to focus on strategic work, and One PD day to develop my skillsets.
  - For these days…
    - Do not book meetings unless it’s urgent
    - It’s ok to slack me, I will still be checking the messages but may be responding at a slower rate (unless it’s urgent).
    - The team is encouraged to utilize the group slack channels, so that if I am not monitoring the channel very frequently. Someone is on it. :)

# What Jenny Expects from Her Reports

- **Honesty and open communication.** If you find anything frustrating, or if you see anything that is not right, please communicate. I truly enjoy feedback as it provides me with potential opportunities to improve. If you have feedback about the way I work and the current processes, or if you have any suggestions/requests, I want to know. Honesty and open communication are highly appreciated.

- **Provide Constructive Feedback (with compassion).** Providing constructive feedback not just for me, but also for your team, will be very important for the team to learn and improve together. Constructive feedback that is given in private with kindness and compassion, can be one great way to build trusting relationships with your team.

- **Walk the Talk:** If you say something, mean it! If you cannot deliver what was promised for good reasons, we will communicate about it, we can work on resolving it or improving it together.

- **Be a Positive Impact on the Team:** we all have the responsibility to build a positive team environment and be respectful to each other.

- **Speak up and share your opinions (Try to do it with a respectful tone!).** Question everything. You need to question everything that is not right, “This is the way we have always done it” is not a sentence we allow at AltaML. This is not just about the work process itself - if you see any behavior that does not align with AltaML’s culture and values, speak up.

- **Working smart is better than working hard.** Always find ways to help you and your team to work more efficiently, instead of putting in long hours all the time. In some situations, longer hours are needed, but those should not be your everyday norm. Working long hours can create a stressful and unproductive working environment for yourself and your team. Take care of your mental health. Take time off when you need it.

# Personality quirks

Outside of work I can be very fun to hang with!
