# Sky Chin's Manager Readme

**Tech Lead at Mindvalley**

# Motivation

This is a living document about how I operate as a manager, which will change as I grow. Use this document as an intro to my management style and how we can work together effectively.

# My Role

As the Tech Lead of the EDEN team in Mindvalley, my primary role is coaching and mentoring the team to deliver more impactful values to the company. My responsibilities include:

- Make technical decision
- Mentor team members to support their career growth
- Guide the team to deliver values consistently
- Work together with the product manager to gather requirements from stakeholders

# What do I value most?

**Ask for forgiveness than permission.** Don’t be afraid to mess up anything. It is easier to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission, as long as you do it with good intention.

**Show, don’t tell.** Communication plays a crucial part in a high-performing culture. I believe the hierarchy of effective communication is like this, writing over telling, drawing over writing, executing over drawing.

# Communications

**Monthly Regular 1-on-1.** This is regular check-in with you to make sure you are doing well. This space is for you to share your concern on career, team, and people. You are the main driver and we can touch on anything within your circle of concern. Of course, I will share my suggestion with you to assist your growth.

**Weekly Engineering 1-on-1.** This is optional. You can book me an hour a week. In this space, we discuss technical decisions, share technical knowledge, review code, and any engineering related stuff. The objective is to narrow our technical gap and expand our technical knowledge.

# My expectations

**Be selfish on your career path.** You are responsible for your own career, not me, not the managers and not the company. If there is any role you want to obtain or any knowledge you want to learn, I strongly encourage you to pursue based on your interest and if possible, I am happy to assist you.

**Be selfless on your knowledge.** As a person, our learning opportunity is limited. As a team, we have so much opportunity to learn from each other. I won’t be selfish about teaching you anything. I hope you do the same to me and the team as well.

# Personality quirks

If you find that my replies to you are cold and brief, please don’t be terrify. I could be in a meeting or focused on something else, and not aware of my tone in the text.
