# Lee MacDonald's Manager Readme

**Co-CEO at Aboard**

# Motivation for this document

Transparency is important to me and in order for us to maximize our synergy, it's best that you understand me, my values and how I like to work. I want us to understand our expectations for **each other**. (Yes...it's a two-way street).

# My role

My job is to ensure we execute on what we've promised to deliver in a timely manner, while respecting the appropriate processes. My job is also to equip you with the necessary resources, tools, etc. in order to help you accomplish your goals, grow professionally and be a sounding board for **whatever** you wanna discuss with me.

# What do I value most?

**What does helping me look like?** Helping me is over-communicating with the team (including me). Helping me is being self-organized.

**What is my process for handling conflicts?** The longer a conflict drags on, the worse it gets. The longer an issue bothers you, the worse it gets. Any concerns or conflicts you may have, need to be brought to my attention immediately.

**How does helping me look like?** I like guidelines...but keep in mind...they're guidelines. They're not fine lines. Openness. Organization. Ownership.

**What weaknesses of mine should the team know about, and how can they help me improve?** Weaknesses of mine include: unable to multi-task, and trying to do too much on my own.

# My Expectations

If you need to chat with me about anything (and yes, I really mean anything since life can be hard sometimes) and if it's time-sensitive, message me on Slack. If it's urgent, call or text me. If it's not time-sensitive, e-mail me. I typically work 7:30am-7:30pm. You should expect a reply within 24 hours (unless I'm on vacation).

I'm not a bean counter. I don't count your hours. I believe in give & take. You need a couple hours off? Go ahead. Tight deadline for a project you're working on? Put a couple extra hours into it. We're all adults. We know what needs to get done.

Don't complain about something without offering a way to find a resolution. **Initiative ** is a beautiful thing.

# Meetings & 1:1s

Meetings, eh? If our meeting can be enjoyed in the great outdoors, then let's do it. If we can also be walking while meeting, even better. All meetings must have some sort of purpose or agenda. I don't wanna walk away after a meeting thinking to myself "that didn't require a meeting".

**1on1s**. You lead them. You choose the location. I'll pay for the drink of your choice. The main focus is you which is why you're leading. Is life so great that you'd like to share something? Is work so shitty, you'd like to share something? I'm open to everything and anything. The goal of our 1on1 is that there is no goal. Opening our lines of communication will greatly improve our relationship and be mutually beneficial when it comes to providing feedback to each other and overall professional development & improvements.

# Personality quirks

I like sarcasm. I like having fun. I like working hard (smart). I'm direct. I'm open. I'm up front. I'm honest. I like the outdoors. I like being active. I dislike sitting. I lead by doing.

# Where to focus on your first 90 days?

Getting to know folks within the company. Understanding how we operate. Understanding our core values. Understanding the problems we're solving.
