# Oscar B's Manager Readme

**Corporate Innovation Program Intern at Rockstart**

# Motivation for this document

I guess I can give you a bit more of an insight into my psyche.

# My role

I would say that the main measurement of success or failure is my manager Zara. Since we are closely working together on the same topics and she is in charge of assigning my tasks and checking in on their progress, she is in the best reference to measure my progress on objectives and work performance.

Since I have my studies on the side, the more structured and well-defined tasks are provided the better. Especially the administrative tasks like Notion notes or organizing meetings and such.

I am aware that I am only on my third week, and have no extensive experience on startup accelerators or intense workplaces like Rockstart. Therefore, it is normal that I am still mostly working within the scope of Zara's work, however, I look forward to having some more permanent or personal missions and more well-defined responsibilities other than being a purely supporting role.

Every day I am getting better at balancing my work-study-personal life, and I really feel a tangible improvement of my work in Rockstart's ecosystem.

# What do I value most?

I have embraced the Dutch communication style so I really like straightforward feedback, tell me exactly what bothers you and I will do my best to improve! No need to be indirect, I really want to improve and I know my work is not perfect, as I want this internship to make me develop a more professional skillset.

A weakness: Working on things ahead of time does not really come naturally to me, I work well under pressure and have a tendency to work close to deadlines, this is no longer sustainable with both Rockstart and Uni. I have been very proactive on this matter, and have been actively developing a task-tracking system that works intuitively for me.

Something that helps: so this was a problem in the first weeks but seems to be getting better as my schedule and tasks become less chaotic (I don't have to meet as many new people anymore); but I find it extremely helpful to have focus time DURING my work day, because I need to set time aside for studying in the afternoon. On that note, I have not yet found a working schedule for when and how I study for my classes, but I am working on developing a routine. I got a handle on my sleeping schedule this week and I can see exponential improvements in my ability to manage my time as I am more efficient.

# My Expectations

A habit I want to continue is to set my focus time ahead of the week on the weekend, so I have time to work on the tasks I am assigned and the projects I am put in charge of (in the future). Regarding communications, I like the use of slack for messages and notion for task managing!

I think "done" is when I reach the goals set out beforehand in the agenda during previous meetings? I like to set myself tangible goals to achieve. So it is clear when I am done.

For availability, I can be flexible around people's schedules, but I really want to limit my Rockstart work from 9 to 5:30 (or even 5 if possible in the future) at the latest, I would like to create a total disconnect until the next day at 9. Again, this will come with time as I engrain myself in the Rockstart Ecosystem.

# 1:1s

I have set 101s with Roy and Zara at set times in the week once a week, I think it's normal for them to lead it since I am the intern and working for them. I will of course be a proactive party in any 101 meeting.

# Personality quirks

I guess one quirk is that I instinctively want to befriend everyone (I think that's because I'm still a student haha), so I tend to become quite relaxed and "informal" with everyone. This is good for personal relations but I can see how it can clash a bit with business diplomacy. Therefore, I am slowly getting acquainted with the boundaries that people have at work, and I hope that my energy or overfriendliness does not pass by as immaturity or unprofessionalism!

# Where to focus on your first 90 days?

The document I shared with the team should give a goof idea on what are my main goals for now!
