# Aaron G's Manager Readme

**Engineering Manager at Solo**

**Motivation for this document**

I want you to understand that it is my duty and commitment to be the best person and professional I can be by surrounding myself of people better than me, and I'll achieve that through you, my dear reader. What follows describes the way I envision we can make it happen.

**My role**

You will find me pursuing the following:

Growth - Help you and the company to level up and being successful by helping you meet and exceed expectations.

Ownership - Ensure you're successful by making sure there is a solid understanding of the business mindset, operation and goals, and ensure you are empowered to use that understanding with complete autonomy.

Advance - Ensure we continue to innovate and provide our customers with the best experience by continuously evolving our technologies.

**What do I value most?**

Transparency, authenticity, trust: These are the values I try to pursue on a daily basis, so I'm always going to be open to new ideas or ways of doing things. I expect you to call me out if you find I can do better in any area.

**My Expectations**

I expect any sorts of feedback in any style, I like to listen and to understand verbal and non-verbal language, if necessary I will ask you to confirm if my understanding is correct to clear out assumptions.

If I make a mistake you are free to call me out for it and I'll make sure to follow up as needed, do not hesitate to bother me until there is a satisfactory result, I'm a human and I will continue to fail, hopefully not about the same thing.

Value and market opportunity capture are a treasure for the business and for me to keep my job, I will try to find bottlenecks and try to have them solved ASAP, bear this in mind if I need to pull things off or throw new things onto your plate.

I value your time outside the office as much as I value mine, I promise not to bother you unless I have depleted my resources. Having said that, I also highly appreciate responsiveness in mission-critical times.

**1:1s**

I will schedule some time with you every now and then even just to check in, I trust in the power of externalization.

I will not stretch my time with you just to fill out the allocated time unnecessarily.

I prefer walking 1:1s as I like blood flowing through my brain, I also like the informal atmosphere it creates so that we both feel comfortable.

I will first check to see if you have any questions or if there’s anything I can do to improve your working environment before going over the 1:1 agenda, unless it's critical to skip that part.

**Personality quirks**

I try to keep track of our conversation through notes, I generally voice it out, but please don't take it wrong if it looks like I'm not paying attention while taking my notes, on the contrary; I want to capture as much feedback as possible.

I will bother you with questions for things I don't have clear as I lay my way through, I appreciate your patience in advance when I'm not following through a particular topic.

**Where to focus on your first 90 days?**

Ask tons of questions to anyone around you, no hesitation.

Help us keep onboarding docs up to date for future newcomers.

Try to understand one key flow at a time, and take your time to clear out any questions.

Take notes, and have them reviewed by your peers, everyone will benefit from that.

Feel comfortable with pairing with anyone to get yourself unblocked.
