# Usha Vundavalli's Manager Readme

**Engineering Manager at Codat**

# Motivation for this document

I have written this document to provide information about my role, values and expectations. I aim to promote a productive collaboration with the audience of this document.

# My role

I build, coach and coordinate the engineering teams so that they could contribute to the continued success of the business by delivering value to our clients.

My team's success will be measured by the following four metrics,

1. Lead Time to New Feature ☝ - How long does it take us to move something from ideation to production.
2. Deployment Frequency ☝ - What's the relationship between the number of ideas travelling through the pipeline and the deployments to production.
3. Mean Time to Restore 👇 - How long does it take us to find and fix a bug. This is especially important for client outages.
4. Change Fail Percentage 👇 - How often does a deployment create a bug. As the deployment frequency drops (big bang releases), this will rise.

I help my team by providing them with the necessary tools, techniques and guidance so that they could deliver quality products to our clients in a timely manner.

# What do I value most?

The things that I value most are team work, self motivation and constant learning.

I would either help you or guide you towards someone that can help you in your times of need. So I would encourage you to approach me without delay if you need my assistance or any information from me.

You can help me by being open to new ideas, collaborative and honest. I welcome your feedback and also will provide you an honest one in return.

Just remember that you don't know something until you know it and seek help if you need without hesitation.

# 1:1s

I hold 1:1s every 2 weeks with people I manage, and then have less frequent / ad hoc skip meetings with indirect reports.

During 1:1 s, I would like to listen about how you are doing and if there is anything that I can do to help you. I would also keep you informed about upcoming changes that are of interest to you.

# Personality quirks

I believe in having a plan is better than having no plan to achieve anything and a good idea can come from anywhere.

I believe in leading by example. I follow the rules before asking someone to do it and I encourage others to do this as well if they want to make a change.
